New Ground breaking ground Feb. 14
ARGUS/DISPATCH -- February 2, 2002

New Ground Theatre will present its debut show, ``The Waverly Gallery,'' Feb. 14-16, 21-23 in the new theater located in Becherer Hall at Rivermont Collegiate, formerly St. Katharine's/St. Mark's School, Bettendorf. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.

The show details the story of a woman's final years battling Alzheimer's as seen through the eyes of her young adult grandson. The New York Times called it ``a stirring and soulful comic drama -- both painful and hilarious.''

Alzheimer's support groups from Clinton, Muscatine and Iowa City as well as from the Quad-Cities will attend the performance on Thursday, Feb. 21, and stay after the show for a panel discussion.

A special celebration is scheduled after the Friday, Feb. 15, performance. Playgoers and the cast will toast the new regional theater and its founding contributors with champagne and soft drinks.

Tickets for the celebration are $25 per person, $20 for children and seniors. Open seating tickets for other performances are $12 and $10, and special rates for groups of 10 or more can be arranged. Call 326-PLAY (563) 326-7529 for reservations, and the box office in Becherer Hall will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. weekdays beginning Friday. You also may pay for your tickets at the door.
